Greetings from the Samburon Football Club!

Samburon Football Club is a group of poor children and youth of Barangay Samburon, Municipality of Linamon,Province of Lanao del Norte.Organized in October 2001 for the PFF Project Kasibulan 6-12.

Most of them are children of tenant-farmers, Fishermen,laborers. Majority are squatters in this area.

The oldest of the group is 18 years old which is still at 3rd year at a public high school. Another guy aged 17 is still at Grade 6 in Elementary.Another guy aged 17 had to stop going to school just to work as PUJ/Van Dispatcher//Conductor earning Php100 a day helping to meet their daily needs in the family.Other guys help their parents going fishing at nighttime.Other guys worked as Jeepney washers/cleaners.Others worked in construction as laborers even if they are minors.

But this guys had one thing in common, and that is, THEY LOVE TO PLAY FOOTBALL WITH ALL THEIR HEARTS!

Samburon has no football field, even a pitch. Coconuts trees are all around in the area.The only place they can play and practice is in the BEACH during low tide.

These guys had played almost all the best football teams (in their age group) in Mindanao.They have played in Dipolog,Plaridel,Mis.Occ.,Ozamiz City,Tubod,LDN,Iligan City,CDO,Cp Philipps,Bukidnon.

The biggest achievement among them all, is when the Samburon U-14 Team won the Mindanao Elimination of the 2004 Adidas 4x4 Football Cup held in CDO last May 15,2004. They beat Dipolog City team with score of 3-0.

The team represented Mindanao in the National Finals also held in CDO last May 30,2004. It was participated by Benguet State Universit of Baguio FA,Collegio de San Agustin of Makati City for NCRFA, Sta.Barbara FC of Iloilo FA,Dumaguete City FC for NOFA, and the last but never the less, the rag-tag team of Samburon Elementary School,of the poor barangay of Samburon.

Samburon finished 4th in the elimination and need to face the formidable no.1 team-Sta.Barbara team,unbeaten in the elim. But luck and magic had abide on the Samburon team which lambasted the Ilonggo team, with the score of 4-0.Thus,the team advanced to the finals facing the much taller and heftier NCR squad. It finally bowed to the opponent 4-1. Thus, it proves that even poor team composed of malnourished kids from poor barangay had put our name into the football map of our country.

Rich and Poor are equal in football!
