Davao Football Association In Talks With Gawad Kalinga Leaders PDF Print E-mail

Gerry Romero-Salas, head honcho of the Davao Football Association (DFA) met with Ricky Villanueva, Gawad Kalinga's regional head for Southeastern Mindanao yesterday morning to discuss the possibility of bringing football into at least 10 GK communities around Davao City. Romero-Salas, with contagious enthusiasm for the project, was very positive about the football program that was discussed at the GK headquarters.
 
He said that DFA would tap its coaches for this project on Social Responsibility which DFA is now vigorously pursuing in its thrust to reach out to more people and help popularize the world's number one sport in Davao.
 
The GK Football Development Program in Davao will be the 3rd in GK sites across the country. The first program is on-going in Metro Manila and a second is now under study in Cagayan de Oro.

SOS Children's Village Sponsors Football Festival PDF Print E-mail

The SOS Children's Village sponsored a 7 a-side festival on 27 August 2007 at the Tionko field to commemorate the celebration of children's month and at the same time promote the SOS concept to the participants.
 
Present during the games are SOS Village director Luis Seras, Davao FA president Gerry Romero-Salas, Davao FA gensec Erwin Protacio. Also in attendance are Councilor Mabel Acosta, Bantay Bata's Ella Abad-Tan, 25th Infantry Battalion Commander Maj. Roland Rodil, and Philippine Football Federation presidential candidate Ed Formoso.
 
Director Luis Seras promised to make this an activity and vowed to suport similar undertaking to promote the children's welfare.

A total of 42 teams participated including from Ateneo de Davao, Indonesian School of Davao, Davao United FC, Holy Cross of Calinan, Kapt. Tomas Monteverde ES, Montserrat Camp School, Navarro National High School, Davao City National High School, Catalunan Grande ES, Philippine Women's Collge of Davao, Sea Gull FC, South Point School, D' Davao Survivors, Davao United FC, SOS Children's Village and UP Mindanao.
 
Teams from Compostela Valley include - Cabuyoan ES, Maubog ES, Pangibiran ES, Ayan ES, and Maco FC.
 
Sponsors are 90.7 Love Radio DXBM, the City Mayor's Office, and Al's Diner.
