“The lines that you see below are mostly taken from books I’ve read. These lines serve me as guideposts in life.” –Ed Formoso
  1. Just three key words, "just like basketball".
  2. Win the heart and the mind falls.
  3. Basketball in the Philippines is the football in Brazil, Italy, Argentina and most of the world
  4. We need to popularize the sport, it is the priority.
  5. Make football a part of the solution.
  6. Sometimes the only way to win the game is not to play it.
  7. To change the things that can be changed, accept those that cannot, and have the wisdom to know the difference.
  8. People want to work for a cause, not just for a living.
  9. You can only beat your enemy by making him your friend.
  10. In the marketplace, there is only one uncompromising standard: you either make money or you don't.
  11. No organization, whether it be for-profit or not-for-profit, can survive with a continuing deficit.
  12. Because big business loves basketball so much, we should start looking at small and medium size enterprises and help one another grow big.
  13. Growing together, living together.
  14. We need to popularize football in the quickest time possible because we are starving.
  15. Football must be made accessible, enjoyable and entertaining.
  16. Big businesses love basketball because of the fun and entertainment it delivers.
  17. A footballer in every family; a fan in every home; a team in every community. Now that's a measurable mission.
  18. People invest in business because they believe in them. If you are a financier, employer, or customer, the same rule always applies.
  19. The true spirit of a partnership is mutual interest. The key word being 'mutual'.
  20. Think less about goods and more about services. How can football be a service?
  21. Respect the fact that we are all very different. When one expects to see things differently, when we take it as a given that others will do things differently and react differently to the same stimuli, we become more understanding.
  22. We are a family, a team, a community working to popularize the game in one part of God's World.
  23. Let's just snuff out the politics and get on with “footballing”.
  24. People think as they do because of the stuff they know or don't know.
  25. Just like any business, commitment and time are essential or your project won't fly.
  26. Question: "If you were me, trying to sell to you, what would you do?" Answer: "Give me something useful, give me some research, then perhaps I will see you."
  27. While Mindshare is an answer, Heart Share is the clincher.
  28. What we need is a turned-on workforce.
  29. What is your cause? Link the cause with reality and you will solve the problem.
  30. Man is driven by an essential 'dualism', he needs both to be a part of something and to stick out. He needs at one and the same time to be a conforming member of a winning team and to be a star in his own right.
  31. Stay on the good side. Do football for good!
  32. What is harmony? That's commitment working two ways. It is the individual to the organization and the organization to the individual.
  33. The boundaries of exclusion should be few.
  34. Recognize prejudice and be courageous to deal with it when it comes.
  35. A good leader must always focus on the breadwinners of tomorrow.
  36. A commitment to the future often requires leaders to put their own money at risk.
  37. Those who initiate change will have a better opportunity to manage a change that is inevitable.
  38. We should never be frightened by the size of the task because it is people who make the difference.
  39. Friendship “muna”.
  40. One can easily change his life by changing the way he thinks.
  41. Football = Basketball. Yes, it’s in the marketing plan.
  42. The poor will set us free.
  43. If a decision is good for the majority, just make sure the majority understands why it is good for them.
  44. Sometimes you need to put your organization 'Under Construction'.
  45. We should work to make politics the background noise in the political exercise of electing a president for football.
  46. Basketball draws all its power from being fun to play and entertaining to watch. If we football people don't realize this up to now...we've got a very serious problem.
  47. Your job is you. Unless you fill yourself up first, you have nothing to give anybody.
  48. Treat everyone with dignity and worth.
  49. Growth is not an option. It is a mandate. When growth is not happening, changes must be made.
  50. Philippine Football Federation = Provincial Football Associations. This is the plan.
  51. You cannot create other people's lives for them. You cannot think for them, and you cannot force your opinions on others. Let others create the life they want.
  52. Don't hesitate to ask for help.
  53. Profit is like health, you need it, and the more the better. But it's not why you exist.
  54. If you want innovation, don't kill the spirit.
  55. None of us is really as good as he or she would like to think, but rubbing our noses daily in that reality doesn't do us a bit of good.
  56. Keep it simple.
  57. A good try that results in some learning is to be celebrated even when it fails.
  58. Managers work with people; leaders stir emotion.
  59. You have to believe in the impossible.
  60. Our most effective goal is to be the best at certain things.
  61. Label a man a loser and he'll start acting like one.
  62. There is importance in beauty as a starting point for a business logic that ensues.
  63. Overspend on quality, overkill on customer service.
  64. One starts by 'feeling it' and escaping the tyranny of reason.
  65. It is much easier to develop a negative argument than to advance a constructive one.
  66. Respect for the individual.
  67. Like good parents: care a lot, expect a lot.
  68. Mind your own business.
  69. See the 'innocence' side instead of the 'guilty'.
  70. Ask yourself: will this matter a year from now?
  71. I've been through some terrible things in my life, some of which actually happened.
  72. In the absence of any judgment, everything would be fine.
  73. Just look beyond behavior.
  74. Every opinion has a grain of merit. Find it.
  75. If we all do our part, we'd be a better “footballing” nation.
  76. The sooner we accept the inevitable dilemma of not being able to win the approval of everyone we meet, the easier our lives will be.
  77. Everyone has a job to do and no one should benefit at the expense of another.
  78. If you focus only on your dreams and visions, you will take all competition out of the equation.
  79. Profit as a means goal and not as an end goal.
  80. In people for football and not in football for people.
  81. Serve the unserved, tap the untapped.
  82. 100 %-ers are who we need in all departments.
  83. It's time to make friends.
  84. Like the USA, we don't have football in our alleys.
  85. An organization were marketing is not an expense but an investment.
  86. If you don't live it, then you don't believe it.
  87. How to do it? Only as you would in God's World!
  88. If metro manila falls in love with football, the rest of the country will follow.
  89. Do not turn one against another man's leadership; just turn him on to yours.
  90. The long term benefits must never be forgotten.
  91. We need to be an organization where people are glad to show what they can do.
  92. Think marketing.
  93. We should be an organization that's going to 'feel good' about what it's doing.
  94. The Footballing of the Filipino....that's another mission.
  95. It all begins with the way you treat people.
  96. We need to find our very own FIFA World Cup.
  97. We really need to look way beyond the game.
  98. Different strokes for Different folks.
  99. For the good of the sponsor.
  100. Intention is the shortest way to bridge the distance between parties who terribly disagree.
  101. Living it, believing it, wanting it and Making it work out.
  102. The absolute marketing cost isn't always the determining factor; the return on investment is.
  103. Are we employing our resources to the full in useful activity?
  104. No one wins until we all do.
  105. When God closes the door, He opens a window.
  106. Don't judge a book by its cover.
  107. No amount of money ever got a dictator out...guess what does?
  108. Forgive. Forget. Forward.
  109. Something for everyone. There is always enough.
  110. Social Responsibility Football is the soul cleansing we need.
  111. A truly Pinoy football revolution can begin today.
  112. In every job that must be done, there must be an element of fun. Then the job becomes a game and the goals become easier to reach.
  113. Positivity is the only answer to Negativity.
  114. We need to work to change 'have to's' to 'want to's'.
  115. Goals must answer to What, When, Where and How you do what you do.
  116. Pure Football -- where football is life.
  117. An earth-friendly federation we must be.
  118. It's the people-side of the equation and not the peso-side that makes a difference. So keep building relationships.
  119. Results of leadership are measured beyond the workplace.
  120. It's more than just the game, its tough business too.
  121. It shouldn't be difficult to realize that basketball is the competition that's taking away the food from our tables

For the Good of Football

Heavenly Father,

Help us to work together in this game that we love,
Direct us to form young men and women
of good moral character and integrity,
Guide us to be charitable
to the needs of the poor and the homeless,
Instill in our Families and our Communities
the values of fairplay and justice,
May we always remember,
that in all our efforts to develop the game,
We will offer it up, for your Goodness.
And may the good we do for football,
always lead us to your Goodness.

Amen
